Aldie Virginia Photographer | Take the Photos
The past few weeks I was reminded just how quickly life can change. How you go to bed one night not knowing what the next morning is about to bring and then one phone call changes everything. I could sit here and write a novel on my feelings and what I have been through the past few weeks. Instead of that I will just say a few things that are on my heart and why what I am blessed to do is so very important.
On January 21st I told my Mom that I loved her for the very last time. I held her hand while she took her last breath and I thanked God for giving her to me and me to her. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. As the days followed, my brother, sister and I spent time going through her place and planning her services. There were a few things that struck me. She kept everything. Not just the things from my siblings and I but also from her grand babies and even her own Mother. It was all very well organized. She was great at many things and organization was one of them. The memories meant a lot to her. They now mean a lot to me as well.
Below are the last photos I have with my mom. One was on my birthday in June, one with her grand babies I took in August and the other was the night before she passed of me holding her hand. These last three images I will treasure for the rest of my life. I am beyond grateful for them but wish desperately that there were more. These were not the last times we were together. We spent a lot of time together between June and January. I wish I would have taken more photos. Photos of the ordinary, photos of her just sitting with me and my kids, at my son’s baseball, during Christmas. I will always remember those times and conversations, but I wish I had more photos of just being together.
I want to encourage you to take the photos. I don’t care how you look or where you are. They don’t have to be professional and they don’t have to be perfect. Just take the photos and hold on to them tight. Someday they may be all you have.
