Loudoun County VA Photographer | Get in Front of the Camera 2.0
A few years ago I wrote a post about getting in front of the camera. My kids were a lot smaller then and I knew just how much I needed and wanted to document that time. It is a true understatement when people say, “they grow up so fast”. We are living in a world right now where our kids are home everyday. Sports are cancelled. All activities are cancelled and even our so needed and beloved family trips are put on hold. For how long, we don’t know. But one thing I do know, I still want to document this time. The family in the post linked above was when we were was living in an easier time. My kids were still of the ages when they not just needed me, they wanted me. Three years ago seems so short but in all honesty, it was definitely a life time ago.
Every year for our families, I put together a calendar of our year. I try to match images from the corresponding month so when we flip to May, it was exactly what they looked like the year prior. For the longest time, most of the images were of the kids and of the kids with my husband. It made me incredibly sad as I, too, am a part of this family. Heaven forbid something happen to me, I want these kids to have as many photos of us, of me, as they want.
I spend a lot of time forcing my kids to take “selfies” with me. It’s better than nothing in my opinion and someday they will thank me. I encourage you to take photos of everyday life. Who cares what you look like, what you are wearing, etc. I mean if I can post a photo of me in my pajamas and glasses with my girl, then you can take some with your kids too. I promise you, they think you are beautiful and amazing no matter what….even when they are crazy, moody, teens.
